BJP PM candidate and chief minister of Gujarat Shree Narendra Modi recently launched e-Nagar project in Ahmadabad. This was the Foundation stone for the powerful and much needed project which will provide Wi-Fi connectivity to public areas across various Wi-Fi hot-spot in a City. This project is first of its kind and was initiated with a launch of 8 Wi-Fi hotspot in Ahmadabad city under the name of Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Hotspot.
While launching this “Digital Gujarat” or “e-Nagar” Project Narendra Modi announced that for now this service will be available on 8 Hotspots (Kankaria, Gandhi ashram, Iskon mall, Karnavati club, Science city, Civil hospital, Drive-in, Madhupura market) of Ahmadabad and it will soon extended to 53 towns and cities in Gujarat.
Modi Government launched this service by joining hands with Reliance Jio Infocomm which is a Mukesh Ambani’s telecom venture. Reliance Jio will give Wi-Fi connectivity to all these hotspots with an average speed of 40Mbps. This speed is higher than that of 3G but not up-to the mark of 4G. When we tried to contact Reliance Jio on this issue they were not in mood to answer. But according to a leading news company one official said “Company cannot launch 4G directly so early, as country is yet to develop the ecosystem. There are over 400 mobile handset brands in India out of which probably one or two have 4G handsets. So probably the company wants to test it through wi-fi hotspots,”
Well after the launch a official technician said “The services which Reliance Jio is offering in Ahmedabad are neither 4G nor 3G, but somewhere in between. We are offering data service at downloading speed of 40 mbps. This is a trial run launched by company for the first time in India. We are just testing and taking feedback from users and so the service is offered free for three months.”
It is clear that Reliance Jio is using Wi-Fi routers to provide the 4G service in the city and testing the feedback of the users. But with this step Gujarat become the first state to do that. Let you inform that Gujarat earlier became the first state to provide Broadband connectivity to all the Panchyat Samities of the state.
