BSNL Broadband : In Depth Review

BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limted is the biggest Wireline Broadband provider in the Country. According to the October stats of TRAI, BSNL has approx 10 million BB users across the country. However, both BSNL and MTNL are continuously loosing their customers.\r\n\r\nBut still there are many places where BSNL is the only choice if you want a Broadband connectivity. Is BSNL worth of money in such case? Here is the in depth review of BSNL Broadband from its 7 month old user.\r\n\r\nI live in Jaipur, Rajasthan. My surroundings are well connected from Telecom technologies but not my colony. 7 months back when I was hunting for Broadband connection I found there is only BSNL BB available. With no option available, I applied for BSNL Broadband on my existing BSNL Landline connection. It took BSNL 3 days to finally  fix all the formalities and put the connection on. A guy came for Installation and since I was having ADSL modem of my own he made several extra ups and down to set up everything. With his testing modem connection was working fine but with my ASUS modem connection was not there. He asked me to replace the modem and went away.\r\n\r\nAt night I noticed that my Landline was not working too. Then I checked there was problem in setting up spliter. I corrected that and both Broadband and Landline started. With this initial incident I understood that you should not trust BSNL employees, most of them are DUMB!.\r\n\r\nHowever I had opted for 4 Mbps plan and initially was showing speed of  3.70 Mbps which was Okay for me.\r\n\r\nI faced not a single problem for 3 months but one day I found connection was down. After waiting 4 hours I contacted the nearest office and they said that its a problem from main station and will take time. It took 8 more hours but everything went fab then.\r\n\r\nThat was the only time when I faced the problem. And now lets talk about its speed and reliability.\r\n

Speed of the BSNL Broadband

\r\nI initially opted for 4 Mbps plan but soon jumped down to 2 Mbps as It was also good for me. I an allowed to use 8 GB with 2 Mbps speed and after that speed fall down to 512 Kbps. I tell you that speed is reliable and I get 200-250 kBps download everytime and 50-60 kBps upload speed. After 8 GB both download and upload speed come at same level and fluctuate around 50-55 kBps. I never faced any slow speed issue apart from one day that also just for 1 hour(I was getting 10 kBps that time :p).\r\n

Reliability of BSNL Broadband

\r\nWell according to my experience, you can relay of its connection. But BSNL is having a bad name out there, everywhere. So you should take following steps before taking a Broadband connection.\r\n

  • Visit at least two place where BSNL BB is working near you house.
  • \r\n

  • Ask their experience and downtime of connection.
  • \r\n

  • Meet the employees of the BSNL office, check if they look promising and able.
  • \r\n

  • If you find anything wrong or the monthly downtime is more than 2 days, never ever go behind BSNL.
  • \r\n
