BSNL is still a “Sarkari” company, nothing has changed.

BSNL is India’s biggest state-owned telecom company. It revolutionized the Telecom sector of India many times. Their landlines made it possible for almost all the villages to connect to rest of the country. 3G was first launched by BSNL. Though the credit of high-speed network revolution will be given to Airtel as they brought practical speeds. BSNL’s Speeds were in papers. The word “Sarkari” has a different meaning now. It is a synonym of Slow, Weak, Inefficient and more.
State-owned Telecom Giant BSNL continuous to carry this tag with its poor implementation of policies, super poor maintenance of its infrastructure and super duper POOR care of its customers in the era of a competitive market.
I remember buying my first ever SIM card. It was back in 2007. I had to give 2 Address and ID proofs. Paid 550 INR. Had to wait 7 days for the activation. Got just 3 INR credit and the call rate was Rs 1.20/ minute. BSNL was my preference over Oasis (Airtel now) because my father was a Government servant. Till date, I didn’t get the logic behind his idea that one must opt BSNL only as its Government company.
Anyways fast forward to 2014, I was using BSNL still, despite MNP option available. Since I was a postpaid user I had to literally walk to my hometown’s BSNL office each and every time I wanted to make a change in my Bill plan or Data service or whatever. I was still okay with it. Things went worst when I started facing call drops. Trust me blindly, I investigated whole bloody thing that why the call drops are happening and approached an officer of BSNL in Jaipur. After explaining him whole thing and showing him proofs and cases I gathered over the time, I asked him to look into this. The solution was lying in the technical department as it had to do with Voice with Data transfer on 3G. His reply made me sad enough that it was last time I explained anything to a highly paid useless Government servant. He said,” You better port out to Airtel, they do not have call drop issues”.
After coping for two more months I did that. Ported to Airtel. In fact, I ported my secondary number to Airtel too. It was only last month that I heard that BSNL has improved its services. I was curious to see that. Using my parent’s phone did not help me much.
Meanwhile, I found a Canopy of BSNL near my house. I asked if they can port my number to BSNL. They agreed. Now the fun begins. Till this time I was not knowing that I am not knowing that I will be regretting my decision very soon.
I took my UIDAI and port code and rushed back to canopy guy. He explained that I will be offered Rs 100 Talk value and few other benefits and that too for free of cost. (I was even ready to pay)
I gave him docs and asked him for any receipt but he denied. I came home with MNP SIM and started waiting for its activation. It takes 7 days generally.
Next day I got a call from BSNL office asking my father’s Name as it was not mentioned in my UIDAI. I gave the info. After 6 days my BSNL SIM got the network. I was busy so could not check it. Next day I tried to make a call from it but found that SIM is not allowed to do so. I tried calling 1507 for tele-verification despite knowing it was not required. I heard the response that I can not make International calls. WTH !! Called 1503 then and had a conversation with Customer care executive. He informed that I do not need Tele-verification but my SIM card has not received FRC yet. FRC is the first recharge that merchants do when they sell you a new SIM.
This process is now automatic in all telecom companies but BSNL is still manually doing it.
I explained the CC executive that I do not know from which BSNL office of Jaipur the canopy guys came from. He said that you either do FRC by paying on your own or find those guys.
FIND?? So BSNL has its employees working on a road but they are not aware who they are. I reached nearest BSNL office and explained them this situation the other day.
They said that no one from BSNL posts any canopy and the offer which I was talking about cost 107 INR. Even SIM was not free I was supposed to pay Rs 20 for it.
I was shocked. I was having a Sim card and my number linked to it and BSNL says this was not their act.
I was ready to pay and activate my outgoing calls but then I pulled myself back. really wanted to find those guys. I rushed to BSNL head office in Jaipur. I asked them if the post such canopy. They said,”No idea”.
REALLY? No Idea? Is that even a proper answer?
I explained my situation to them too. They said we can not help.
I just came out laughing at myself. And while stepping out I recalled that it is the same office which I visited 2 years back asking for 1285 INR of security refund of my postpaid number which I ported out. I have not received that amount TILL DATE.
Why BSNL, why?? With the entry of JIO, even the leading telecom company Airtel has seen a competition. What makes you guys so rock hard and stupid that you don’t want to make any change and improve services?

We must not underestimate the capabilities of BSNL. It still has the largest landline base and widest Telecom infrastructure in the country (Jio might win here within few months).  Along with that its employees are most well paid and get all the facilities. Then where the problem lies?

The problem lies in the Management, in the morality and in the thoughts of its workforce. Paralyzed workforce and zero accountability to growth make it worse.

These problems are not just with the BSNL mobile network. The broadband of BSNL which is second to none in reach has been of a bad reputation from years.  Not just speed or plans are outdated. They even have problems with some of the websites too. Some popular website never loads properly on BSNL Broadband. Making payments via some of leading banks never go through.

Anyways, just like me many are now tired of BSNL and do not care. But this is the biggest state-owned operator. How can they just do not care? It is the time that government must look into this. We all know that last time when BSNL made the profit, it was the year 2008.

Just offering cheaper data plans will not attract customers. Solve rest of the problems, make your staff behave properly. And remove rust from those new but ideal machinery. Use them, properly.

Instead of setting an example for useless things, do something good in this time when Telecom is growing like never before.

I hope I will port back to BSNL next year. Till then I am loyal to Airtel.

Idea postpaid SIM is not showing network : Resolved

Idea cellular is among the leading private telecom player in India. Most of the Idea customer are prepaid but Postpaid services of Idea has grown faster than any other company due to their plans and offline campaigns.

If you are Idea Postpaid user and currently facing an issue on that where you are not able to connect to Idea network then here are a few ways to do solve it. Idea is among those company who restrict your SIM to connect to the network if you do not pay the bill or have some other issue.

Pay Your Bill

Yes, Stubborn Idea will cut your Network if you do not pay their bill before due date.  You need to clear your due completely and wait for few minutes to go online again. Here are steps:

  • Pay your Bill via any Payment service, online or Offline.
  • If you do not know the amount to be paid you need to visit any Idea store for that. Or you can Pay approximately 100 INR extra to whatever your monthly rental is.  (If you are on Plan Rs 399 then pay around 550 INR. This includes Taxes + rental + 100 INR extra Approximately. )
  • After making payment, You need to wait for 10-15 minutes and then restart your phone to get network connectivity.

Select Network Manually

If Your Bill is paid and you think that bill is not the issue then you need to try this.  Idea has tie-ups with few telecoms for 3G and 2G networks. They somewhere use Airtel’s 3G network to provide 3G services. Similarly, they might use 2G network of some other company too. Here are steps for it:

  • Make sure you are on LTE/WCDMA/GSM mode. Some phone reads 4G/3G/2G mode or Auto mode.
  • If you are on 2G only or 3G only mode then switch it to Auto mode.
  • Now go to Network settings and in “search network” Select Choose network Automatically.
  • If you are still not getting any network, go to Select network manually.
  • After search, you will get to see many networks. Select Idea network, if any.
  • If you see no such Idea’s Network then choose Airtel 3G Network.
  • You will get the signal most probably.

Is Roaming service Activated?

Idea has given customer option to turn their SIM off if they go into a Roaming Area. You can access this service via their Mobile app or Website.  Here are steps for that:

  • Go to My Idea app or login into My account on Idea’s website.
  • There, Go to accounts Section and click on services. (See the Image in last Point.)
  • You will see National Roaming service listed there.
  • Turn that on. This will have no charges.
  • idea-sim-roming

Visit Idea Store.

If none of these works, you need to rush to Idea store. If the SIM was not active for long, chances are there that Idea has disconnected it from their end.  Also sometimes they Add some sort of charges and you might not know the exact Bill amount. In that case, Idea store will tell you the amount and you can pay the bill their Using Debit/credit card of Cash.

Hope this article helped. If you have any doubt or query then you can ask in the comments section below.

PCA facility on Reliance Communication

If you are here to know about the PCA service or facility of RCom and got a message of “PCA facility has been deactivated”  or “Success, PCA service has been activated”.  We have the answer.

PCA is actually Pre Call alert facility from Reliance Communication for all its customers.  This is a service which is auto activated and deactivated from Reliance depending upon the condition of Roaming,  Bill due,  Expiration of pack etc.

PCA facility reliance
Reliance reminds you about any certain thing via this facility.  For example if your bill is due then they activate this PCA and whenever you make calls they remind that Bill is due.

If you got text of its activation and deactivation,  no need to worry.  This service is anyway a free service and reliance will not charge for it.

If there is any service which you want to know about in detail,  ask in the comment section below.

Airtel Launches Payments Bank : All you need to know

Airtel has launched its Payments Bank in Rajasthan and will soon launch it nationwide. Many of us are still having so many doubts about the offerings of this new service. We even asked Airtel stores but even after the launch they are skeptical about its details. Let us clear some air.

What are payments Bank?

Payments banks will be Virtual banks with facilities of Savings and Current account on board. They can not offer loans and Credit card. However, they can offer Debit card, Internet banking etc.  Reserve Bank of India gave this idea to India a few years ago.

What are limitations of Airtel Payments Bank?

Airtel Payments Bank is not a full-fledged bank.  Maximum deposit in a day can not go beyond Rs. 49,990.  You can only do transactions of Rs 5,00,000 in a day. As per Payments Bank rules, Airtel can not offer any loans, credit or Credit cards via its Payments Bank. Below given are some other limits.

Airtel payments bank limits

Can I transfer Money to any Airtel Payments Bank user without any charges?

Yes, Any transfers within Airtel Payments bank will be Instant and free of cost. Though it can not exceed limits of Daily Transactions as stated in the previous point.

Can I transfer money to any Real Traditional Bank account / Savings account / Current account?

Yes, you can. But this attracts charges.  You need to pay as per the existing charges as given in Image below.  airtel-payments-bank-charges

These charges might change as PayTM has plans to launch Payments Bank soon and competition will surely play its part.

Can I use Airtel Payments if I don’t have Airtel Mobile Number?

Yes, Airtel says you can. However, it has some restrictions as of now.  You might have to access Payments bank only via Airtel Money app as USSD code will not work from a number of any other operator.

How much time its takes to open an Airtel Payments Account?

It just takes 4-5 minutes to open an Airtel Payments bank account if Airtel is believed.  The process of e-KYC has to credited for this.

What documents are required to open an Airtel Payments Bank account?

You just need your aadhar card. You do not need to submit it there. It is all digital. They need only your aadhar number and you are done with formalities.

Where can one open this account?

You need to walk to Airtel store for this. At present only stores is Rajasthan have this facility.

Do we get free Talktime / Minutes if we deposit money in Airtel Payments Bank?

Yes, If you have an Airtel connection then you get 1 free Local and STD minutes of every Indian rupee you deposit. If you deposit Rs 5000, you get 5000 minutes of free talktime.

But this is a promotional offer and you can get this benefit with your first deposit only.

Do we get Insurance cover with each Airtel Payments Bank account?

Yes, Airtel is offering a personal accidental Insurance cover of Rs 1 lac with every savings account. Insurance is provided by Bharti AXA.

Can we have more than one account?

No, You can not hold more than one account in Airtel Payments bank.

Will I get any Debit card or ATM card on my Airtel Payments bank account?

No. However, Airtel can offer debit or ATM card in future as RBI has allowed payments Bank to offer Debit cards. But since they are based on the idea of Digital India, it is unlikely to happen.

How much interest Airtel will offer?

Airtel will offer Interest rate of 7.25 % per annum. However, there are no clear words over the question of how this amount will be credited. It may be credited quarterly.

Will there be any charge to access Airtel Payments Bank via USSD or IVR?

No, It will be all free. You can access via *400# or via IVR by dialing 400.

What happens to the existing Airtel money accounts?

All the existing Airtel money accounts with retailers i.e.  Airtel Money Power account has been upgraded to Airtel Payments bank account. The other Airtel money accounts i.e. Express account needs to update e-KYC and move to Payments Bank facility.

If there are more questions in your mind, ask in the comments section and I will include them here.

Ever Since the Jio has shown its power, Airtel is offering a few extra benefits also to its customers. So ask for offers and discounts if you are going to buy a Data card or plan.

Airtel comes 10 GB 4G/3G data at cost of 1 GB

India’s Leading telecom provider Airtel has attempted one more indirect trick to tackle Jio. This is however limited to people who are purchasing a new 4G Handset.

Airtel has marked this offer as “10 GB 4G/3G data in just Rs 259/-“. Though it is not necessary that customers will get it in same rate in all circles. Price varies in all circles. Its simply the same old 1 GB 3G data recharge which you need to do and you will get 10 GB.

Steps to get 10 GB 3G/4G data at cost of just 1GB in Airtel

  • Get a new 4G Device. (Mandatory)
  • Insert Airtel 4G SIM in device within 30 days of purchase.
  • Recharge with regular 1 GB 3G/4G Data pack which cost between 250-265 INR.
  • You will get 1 GB data instantly.
  • Claim remaining data from My Airtel App.

Major terms and conditions for this offer

  • Your 4G device must be less than 30 days old.
  • You must have a 4G SIM.
  • You should recharge only the standard 1 Gb recharge.

This offer is also said to remain available for 2-3 months at least. This is no doubt an indirect approach to tackle Jio as any person buying any new 4G device today, hit to Jio SIM shop inorder to enjoy the free 4G data which Jio offers.

This offer is available in all telecom circles of India. Though Airtel has no 4G service in 4 telecom circles but you can use this same for 3G in such circles.

Why calls do not connect from Jio?

If you are using the revolutionary Reliance Jio then you must have noticed by now that it is a real pain to make calls from Jio and sometimes same happens when people call on your Jio number.

But why this is happening? Earlier Jio claimed that once they roll out services commercially, this problem will be solved. But it is already 15 days since the Jio launched. This problem seems to have no end.

Believing Jio, the operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea etc are not providing enough Interconnect points to calls or traffic coming from Jio. They have been accusing same from Day one.

Operators like Airtel etc are agreeing to this to some extent but also says that they do not have enough financial power to invest upon this.

As per reports, Reliance Jio has already paid Airtel enough to establish Interconnect points and Airtel agreed to increase the points by 3 folds. But as per Jio it is just 1/4th of their needs.

Interconnect points are something which allows a customer of Operator A to call a customer of Operator B. And the A pays the charges to B.

The calls from Jio are free, Jio says that their calls are from Data and hence they do not need to pay this charge.  Still, Jio is ready to pay a bit to operators for establishing additional interconnection points.

Whatever be the solution, Jio has to come with it out soon. Failing so they will turn a Data only provider and others might feel no competition in Voice business.

New and better version of JioFi launched.

WiFi device of Reliance Jio i.e. JoiFi recently got a new version. This one is a good upgrade compared to JioFi 2 which came to the market just a month back.

New JioFi comes with an OLED display and bigger battery.  One can connect upto 10 devices with this and can make calls using Jio4GVoice app from any Android or iOS device.

Customer gets Welcome offer with this device also where calls are free and Data is unlimited but with a cap of 4 GB 4G data only.

It is better than the previous version because of the bigger battery powering it. It is having a 2600 mAh battery. This one is also designed in India.

Price is also reasonable. You can get this just by spending Rs 1999. Looks like Jio learned the pricing lesson with the previous JioFi 2, which was priced at Rs 2899 first but soon Jio realized the mistake and brought it down to Rs 1999.

This is now looking a good deal and value for money. Though the device is yet not listed but many of the media persons are reporting that it is available in many cities already.

Here is the Image of device as posted by PhoneRadar:
